Where Did I Wander.....

A New Look

It has been a while since I added anything to this, my Forgotten Blog! I had thought I would be right back with an update on the Garden in all its Glory! Alas, good intentions and several Years have flown past... but I am still here! And I thought I would like to record the transformation of the last room in my house that had not been painted since I moved in almost nine years ago! It is the bedroom my son sleeps in and it was papered in an unbelievably dark old brown wall paper....

This is one of the only pictures I could find of the old look...
because who wants to take pictures of a dark old wall paper?

We stripped the walls one wall at a time and patched the old plaster
and began to paint. The winter had us dreaming of misty green jungles.....

The walls were old and full of holes and cracks...

We repaired the plaster, but had to paint around it
while waiting for the plaster to cure....
The idea was to graduate the shades of green,,,, light to dark...

One wall at a time.... over many many weekends....

Slowly transforming the room from dark to light....

Grounding the floor, but opening up to the "sky" above.....

And when we had completed the basic colors on all the walls...

Then it was time to start to paint the jungle...
Trees emerging from the mist.....

Layer by layer..... tree by tree.....

Wall by wall.....

Expanding the horizons of this small room....

Adding leaves to the branches....

Pushing back the slant of the ceiling....

Layer by layer, growing the misty glade....

Thickening the foliage.....

Slowly bringing the "jungle" to life.
Until suddenly the early Spring caught up to us,
and suddenly the painting could wait...
I think we will want to add many more details...
but sometimes this takes me a long time!
But for now, the room has been utterly transformed...
You would never know it had once been so dark and dreary!
It seems I wandered Far Far away....
I hope you do not mind coming along!

Oh May!

Oh My! May I Show You May...?

Shall We take a trip into the recent past and stroll through my garden when May is first Whispering to the Earth and the plants are still Shyly responding... I know I have promised you these visits... and have failed to keep my appointment.... But Quick, before we have forgotten.... here is Spring Newly Sprung at my Gate...

The Bleeding Heart is just beginning to unfurl....

And Narcissus 'Salome' opens it's pink cupped trumpets...

And 'Thalia' too, with it's nodding double blooms...!

And with every passing day the leaves are growing,
adding to the dappled shade of midday...

And new buds that promise soon to reveal their Glory....

Starting as a gentle Serenade....

A Delicate Froth.....

And the Lilacs give their All early....
Scenting the air... nodding in the breezes....
And just as quickly fade away....
The more valued for their brief splendor!

While others are slowly advancing...
(Watched by he who rules the garden....)

Until no-one can ignore their exuberance!

And the pristine beauty of an early morning after a rain......

When every blossom cries "look at Me..!"

And look we must.....

And even the Leaves are Dew adorned.....
Dripping pearls at every lip....

And glitter with the dusting of diamonds.....
And Fascinate us...
long before the blossoms are even born...!

And the wild Columbine bursts forth from between the cracks....
Self sown... and self Sufficient....
That beautiful and rarest of hues...
Blue....

Pansies too....

And amongst the rampant growth of Iris swords......
The stray tiny bells of the lily of the Valley....
Oh, can you hear them ringing?

And before you Blink... A Month has flown.....
And the Lush growth of Summer is on the cusp....

The Clematis at my door unfold their pearly petals.....

And the Iris too...

The columbine is no longer shy,
but dances with a cheerful crowd....

And so eager are the Summer's Belles....
The first Roses step out on the stage.....

"Crown Princess Marguerite'
Fragrant, abundant, Magnificent in full bloom.....
Just teasing us.... because it is Not Quite June!

And let's not ignore the Honeysuckle.....
Preparing for it's William Morris Moment.....
Lush, Lyrical, Exuberant,
Oh! Was that only May....?

I Promise you, June......
Soon!

In the Beginning...

Spring Is Here!

Did it really take only two weeks to go from Winter to Spring? Sometimes it is like that in this part of the world! One day it is snowing and the next the sun is shining so strongly that the snow just evaporates! And suddenly the tiny flowers are blooming in the sunny corners... and it is Time to clear off last year's dead remains and let the Garden Season Begin!

Last year the Season began so early that I didn't have time to prune my Roses...
so this year they have been given a serious cutting back!
The pile by the gate is the evidence....

I LOVE the way the Garden looks at this time of the year....
so bare and flat .... only the skeletons of the plants showing....

But when you get up close .... that ground that looks so bare....
is really bursting with the new growth!

Bleeding Heart erupting from the dead leaves.....

Tulips poking through the moss.....

The intricately pleated Lady's Mantle unfolding it's leaves.....

Primrose sending up new growth.....

And the Iris shooting forth....

The veriest Tips of the Peonies..... so Red!

And you must look carefully to see the Phlox poking through!

The Daffodils will be blooming in no Time!

And the Narcissus too.....

And soon the Vinca will be covered in bloom.....

But for now.... it is the Crocus that steal the Show!
The first to arrive in my Garden each year.....

Tucked into the corners....

Glowing in the sunlight.....

 Tiny bursts of Joy!

Celebrating the New Life....

But I am Impatient....
I must plant the planters full of potted pansies brought home from the Nursery...

The sweet little Johnny Jump-ups are my Favorite!!

I keep hoping they will begin to self seed in the cracks of the paving.....

And their bigger Cousins... the Pansies....
in all their varied colors....

This morning were glistening from last night's rain......

And I was late to work because I had to stop and Worship Every one....

The closely furled Crocus......

And Mr. Pickwick too.... spangled with the raindrops....

So Cheerful in the morning sun!
Ah, Yes! The Garden Season Truly has Begun!

Welcome to my Garden!
